A Thanksgiving Appetizer:: Fig and Ricotta Crostini with Honey & Thyme

It is only Tuesday, but my mind and stomach has switched to full-on food mode, after all Thanksgiving is my favorite holiday. I have an idea of what desserts I am going to make - I am thinking about a chocolate ganache tart and a classic pumpkin pie.  But for starters, if you are looking for a simple yet delicious appetizer, I recommend you make this Fig and Ricotta Crostini with Honey and Thyme. It is incredibly simple, but delivers a heavy dose of flavor for your guests to munch on before the Thanksgiving table is set.  Continue for recipe...

Ingredients:
One loaf of fresh bread - preferrably a hearty version like rustic Italian used here
Ricotta, fresh if possible
Figs, one container slice into quarters
Honey, to drizzle
Thyme, to garnish
Salt & pepper, to taste

Directions: Preheat oven to 400 degrees. Cut bread into thick slices (this way it will easily hold the topping) and place on baking sheet for about 5 minutes, or until bread is slightly browned. Remove from oven and let cool.  Once cool, layer ricotta and sliced figs and drizzle with honey and garnish with thyme.

  15. Loved them- I added a little crushed almond over the top! Very sweet so if serving with other appetizers - pair with a more salty or savory appetizer
