Black and White

There is something inherently chic and clean about black and white. Whether in an interior space or in fashion, the combination of black and white has the ability to create a huge impact. Here are some of my favorites.

1. Striped dress
2. Greek-keyed pillow
3. Porcelain knob
4. Decorative plate
5. Patent leather with black and white heel
6. Extra-large hounds-tooth jumpsuit
7.  Black and white tweed shorts
8. Spotted loafers
9. Striped vase
10. Detailed inlayed chest

Inspiring Interiors - Offices

We have a fairly large office off the side of our bedroom that has not been utilized since we moved in, nearly ten months ago.  Instead of functioning as an office, it stored a lot of our belongings that merged and have been forgotten about ever since.  Well, the other day I was walking the dog and stumbled across a great treasure just pushed to the curb - the West Elm Parson's Desk that I have been eyeing for years, seriously. It was even in white, the color that I wanted!  I just couldn't believe that someone would just throw it away, but well, that is New York for you. So in one days time I managed to ransack the room and we both agreed to throw away old nick knacks and make the place functional and beautiful.  It needs a coat of paint, a photo gallery of sorts and some other details to make the space an inviting haven to work in.

Now that I have the desk, I can finally create an inspiring work space.  I am scouring the web and design magazines for some inspiration. Below are some images that are getting my creative juices flowing.

(Angular lines in black and white)
(One of my favorites by Mary McDonald - I love the vintage fashion pictures that create a beautiful collage)

Garden Delight

Despite the fact that we are nearing the end of November, I am still thinking about lush green gardens.  It could also be due to the fact that it has reached a wonderful 70 degrees two days in a row.  The grassy paths above and the white pergola covered with an array of roses has left me dreaming of spring.

Places to Go: Redhook Lobster Pound

(The scales to weigh the lobsters)
(The fresh lobster pool)
(Maine Style Lobster Roll - a healthy mixture of fresh lobster, mayonnaise and lettuce)
(Nautical inspired decorations in the dining section)

The Redhook Lobster Pound is quickly becoming an institution in Manhattan and Brooklyn for serving authentic and delicious lobster, straight from Maine.  We recently ventured to Redhook to try their famous lobster rolls.  Located on the northern section of Van Brunt Street, this restaurant is a must-try if you are in the area, or even if you are not, follow them on Twitter to find the location of their food truck.  The rolls are prepared as you wait and can be eaten on the picnic tables in the laid-back dining room. I had the Maine Style lobster roll that was piled with lobster meat and sandwiched between a buttered roll - what a delightful lunch.

2.  Warm faux angora

Kate Moss and Sienna Miller are my two favorite style icons.  The way they dress is similar in some ways, but different in others.  But one thing is certain, both Brits know how to wear a fur coat.  Either dressed up or dressed down, above are some of my favorite looks that are inspiring me now, especially as the thermometer begins to plummet.  Who are your style icons?

Window Shopping: Saks Fifth Avenue (Holiday Edition)

(Stunning Marchesa)
(Alexander McQueen)

It is that time of the year again when the city is bedecked with holiday beauty.  New York is the absolute best place to be during the holidays, especially now that the holiday windows are being unveiled across the city.  I wouldn't want to be anywhere else.  Here is a look inside the Saks Fifth Avenue windows.  My jaw dropped when I saw the exquisitely layered Marchesa gown and the burgundy hued feather dress from Alexander McQueen.
