Spring 2015: Paris Runway Recap

And just like that Spring 2015 is a wrap.  Paris brought forth a plethora of key trends, many of which were carried over from New York, London and Milan.  There were new interpretations of femininity from eyelets to denim and a sportier point of view where swimwear served as tops paired with pants and skirts.  Décolleté was on full display where many designers sent looks down the runway with low cut tops and dresses.  Here are some of my favorite looks and trends from Paris.

Milan Spring 2015 - Runway Trends

The Milan shows have come and gone, now the show has moved onto Paris.  But before I start dreaming about the fashion that is yet to emerge, Milan was nothing short of noteworthy.  A few trends from New York and London carried over to Milan, like florals - bright, colorful and over-sized as seen at shows like Marni and Blumarine.  Denim received a high fashion makeover from bejeweled at Dolce & Gabbana to an exaggerated peplum at Giamba (Giambattista Valli's new line, which is stunning as expected).  A key shade was clay -  a muted and earthy tone that created a soft palette at Bottega Veneta and Marni.

London Runway Report - Spring 2015

London is quickly becoming one of my favorite cities for fashion.  I adore how emerging designers use color and are not afraid to break the 'rules'.  The Spring shows were just another example of this where British designers like Emilia Wickstead, Michael van der Hamm and Roksanda turned out collections that were dizzily colorful, feminine and just down-right pretty.  One of my favorite trends to emerge from London were the light as air pinks, that were like taking in a breath of fresh air, especially when paired with soft lilacs at Temperley London.  Sheer touches were a dominant theme in New York and are not for the modest, except at shows like Burberry and Issa where sheer fabric overlays were placed over an abstract print.

New York Spring 2015 Beauty Report

I hope that everyone had a great week.  This week couldn't have been any longer and it was a rough one, unfortunately there was a death in my husband's family. It is so hard seeing someone you love going through the pain and loss.

Spring 2015 beauty was effortless, pretty and oftentimes severe.  Complexions were kissed with bronzer, eyes were washed with a vibrant turquoise blue shadow and perfectly manicured brows perfectly frame the face.  Here is a recap of the beauty trends from New York. You can follow my Spring 2015 Runway Beauty board here.  I hope that everyone has a great weekend!

Cherry Blossom Wonder

I hope that everyone had a great weekend! We had quite an eventful one, if you follow me via Instagram you might have seen we (legally) got married!  Saturday's weather here in New York felt like a hot summer day that brought with it sporadic rain showers, luckily, the rained cleared and the sun came out long enough to say our vows by the Long Island Sound.  It was a very special moment, but I am looking very forward to our actual wedding this Saturday.

Ever since my first year living in New York (I am dating myself but it has been 13 years) I have been flocking to the same grassy hill in Central Park to take in the cherry blossoms each spring.  With this past winter being so brutal, there were times that I thought these beautiful flowers would never bloom.  I could sit under the light pink petal canopy for hours letting the light filter in and hearing the bird sing.  Here is a glimpse into the grand finale of spring here in New York, I hope you enjoy!

Magnificent Magnolias

Magnolias, how magnificent you are. You arrive just when we need you but are gone far too quickly.  My favorite season has arrived and the amount of color on the trees makes me utterly delighted.  It begins with vibrant yellow forsythia, followed by magnolias and then ends with the grand finale of spring, the cherry blossoms.  I have been closely monitoring a magnolia tree around my apartment and recently on a spring day, that felt gloriously like summer, it bloomed.  Here is a glimpse at these beautiful pink tinged petals that grace us with their beauty, if only for a few days.

Spring Forward: A Guide to Spring's Best Jackets

Happy Monday! I'm coming off from such a wonderful weekend, I truly felt like a bride to be! For some reason our wedding has felt like a dream but now feels so real and I cannot wait. Thank you for all of your sweet words!

I have never been more eager to tuck my winter jackets far away, deep into my closet and forget about them until next winter.  I wouldn't be lying either if I said that I would like to forget about jackets all together, but alas I am ready to lighten it up whether it be with a vintage-inspired denim jacket, a buttery leather bomber or a relaxed military style coat.   Here are some of my favorite picks for the season so far.  What is your key transition layer?

Petal by Petal: Lily of the Valley

Lily of the Valley, also known as muguet, is one of those precious flowers with a heavenly scent that blooms each May.  This flower has tiny bell-shaped blooms that create a powerful powdery floral fragrance, which makes this flower perfect for those wanting a  strong aroma.  Lily of the Valley can be purchased as a plant or as a bouquet at various flower shops.  I picked this bunch up at the flower market in Chelsea.  If you are looking for something with lasting power then definitely purchase the plant version since it will bloom year after year.  Continue for more...

I Love This Look: A Statement Floral Dress

I hope that everyone had a great weekend! I had a productive one, after being away or really busy the past few weekends it was nice to stay at home in Brooklyn, even though it rained both days. I did manage to take a trip to the Union Square Market, plant some flowers in our 'garden' and do a little baking.  This spring season has been very strange in the New York area - I still feel like I can't trust the weather, it's up, it's down I really don't know how to dress.  Regardless, my eye and style has been gravitating towards watercolor florals and soft pastel prints that induce a spring-like state of mind. I am loving this look above, it has a 40's vintage feel - I love how it hits mid-calf. I hope that everyone has a great week!

Welcoming the Cherry Blossoms

I hope that everyone had a great weekend. I spent an extra day away to spend time with my family in Boston. I finally got to meet my nephew and let me tell you, he is the sweetest little man - it is times like this that I wish I lived closer to my family.  I also got to spend Mother's Day with my mom which was very nice, we enjoyed a nice brunch full of pancakes and strawberry scones.  We also had wonderful weather, everything in Boston is in full bloom, just like it is here in New York. I snapped these photographs at my favorite cherry blossom location in Central Park. These blooms just make me happy - I wait for their arrival every year.  Is there a particular flower that you wait for all year?

I Love This Look: Flowers & Embroidery

I hope that everyone had a great weekend!  I had a busy weekend, first on Saturday I celebrated my honeys birthday with an amazing chocolate chip pancake breakfast (recipe to come), followed by a Yankee game (they won, go Yanks!).  Then on Sunday, I got to spend the day with one of my dearest friends Christi, who was in town from Charleston, South Carolina.  We spent the day exploring Brooklyn with a must-stop at the Smorgasburg which was amazing as always.  Spring is still slowly making it's way into the area and I have been back and forth with wearing a jacket to going without.  One item that I can't live without is my leather jacket - which is just one of the reasons that I love this outfit here.  I love how the toughness of the leather is paired with two ultra-feminine pieces like floral prints and white, delicate embroidery.  I also love how her brows are super defined and how her cheeks are rosy, just a sunny look. I hope that everyone has a great week!
