New York Spring 2015 : Runway Recap

New York fashion week has nearly come and gone but not without a few major trends that will have you eagerly counting down the days until next spring.  Here is a recap of the key trends from New York. Stay tuned for my beauty recap, because the makeup so far has just been pretty.

Bow Tie: Femininity was in full swing at many of the shows, where the waist was subtly accentuated with an elegant bow adding the perfect final detail.

White Out: The key shade for spring is white  - pure, clean and utterly sophisticated. A myriad of designers sent down a variety of silhouettes that included everything from lace to perforated textures and sateen finishes.  The sheer patterned overlay at Honor and sheer dress with silver details are Prabal Gurung were some of my favorites.

The New Metals: Metallics received a makeover for spring where designers like Nonoo and Peter Som adapted shades of bronze and gold to to dresses and short sets, while Monique Lhuillier included rose gold pieces with a tarnished effect.

The New Botanicals: Florals have had their day and still have momentum for spring, but a new take on printed flora is lush green botanical prints as seen at Jason Wu and Peter Som.

Well-Pleated: The modern day take on a silhouette that might breed thoughts of nostalgia from days in private schools. Gold, silver and rich navy were just a few shades of this skirt that hit right around the knee.

Beautiful Terrain: Designers seek inspiration from everywhere and it is apparent that some are greatly influenced by the geographic terrain that has shaped them as a designer.  Prabal Gurung's pieces were painted with a vast landscape of the Himalayan mountains, while Vivienne Tam's print were inspired by her recent visit to Beijing.

Stripes on Stripes: This classic pattern was incorporated in heavy doses from Altuzzara who combined an asymmetrical striped pencil skirt with with a striped blouse to Yigal Azrouël that took a more subtle approach placing stripes on maroon fabrics.

  1. to me, spring makes me think of soft hues and feminine accents, so I just love the pleats and bow tie looks!
