Jan Showers is a decorator/furniture designer that I have been fond of for quite some time.  I first discovered her work in Domino and immediately fell in love with her luxurious design details, materials (think lucite) but most of all her color palette and her use of gold.  The coffee table, bench and sofa above are just a tiny snippet into her glamorous world. This post will definitely require a follow-up very soon, but in the meantime, enjoy!

There is something about gold plates that I just absolutely adore.  Perhaps, it's because it's that time of the year, when gold and silver are the perfect choice for adding festive touches to table settings.

One of the best times to incorporate gold into your wardrobe is fall.  As the leaves begin to change from green to yellow and red, richer hues begin to emerge in stores - think of colors like deep eggplant, chocolatey brown or rusty red; a great compliment to these pigments is just a hint of gold.

This Doris Bank gilded dish collection are almost too beautiful to eat off of - their not so perfect shape makes them even more irresistable and talk about life handing you a golden spoon! I love the golden creamer, I mean can you imagine having your guests pour milk into their coffee out of such a beautiful carafe? And the golden lined bowl - just amazing.

Gold Star (Part Deux) - David Stark for West Elm

David Stark’s bright green and black studio is practically within an arm’s reach from where I live in Brooklyn. I kind of  want to (okay, I really want to) walk over there and tell him personally just how much I am in lust with his golden plates (they look sand-dollar inspired, no?) and bowls that he designed especially for West Elm.  This collection resembles an antique gem that I would find hidden at some fantastic estate sale. These beauties are almost too pretty to eat off of. I have got my eye on them and as of right now, I am refusing to walk by the Dumbo store, because I really hear them calling my name.  Now, if I could only get this meal and table setting out of my mind that I am picturing with those plates!

Gold Star - A Vintage Find and an Update on the Classic

I love the color gold. Actually, it is my favorite color.  Every piece of trash furniture that I resurrect from someone’s stoop in Brooklyn, I want to do one thing and one thing only – spray paint it gold.  I am not sure why I have such a fascination, other than it is the color of pure luxury.  I love it so much, that I had to fit the word into my blog title.  Before my favorite color was Tiffany Blue, but it was my discovery and obsession with Versailles that made me convert to this sophisticated, glowing – ahh, just such a beautiful color, color. 

Here are my picks for this week’s Gold Star:

Vintage: It is my vintage mother of pearl cigarette case that I found a few years back looking very lonely on eBay.  They just don't make makeup compacts the way that they used to. Inside, there is the remains of pressed powder, a tiny large-toothed comb inside of a velour pouch and a bright red lipstick. 

Modern: I am also lusting after West Elm’s new mother of pearl boxes that I discovered over the long weekend. These boxes are heavy and just gorgeous. I would love to place beautiful stationary or perfume inside of them. 

Oh yes, I also haven’t mentioned thus far my obsession with capiz shell and mother of pearl; pair these materials with gold, my jaw literally drops (simultaneously with my bank account, unfortunately).  So be prepared for many other posts that include these beautiful shells.
