From the Runway:: Emerald & Cobalt (Chloé Resort 2015)

I love the effect of high impact color combinations, especially when they are in the jewel tone family.  The Chloé resort show delivered just this pairing emerald green and cobalt blue in a variety of ways. Strappy cobalt sandals with a feminine bow detail were paired with a rich emerald lace dress that hits mid-calf while another look included enlarged floral prints complimented a full-skirt.  I also love Merritt's take on this look here.  Below are some of my favorite picks that include there two stunning shades.

{Trend Spotting} Paris Fall 2014

Out of all of fashion month, Paris is by far my favorite.  Perhaps it is because that city captivates me like no other and the fashion that is born there is just incredibly inspiring.  If there is one key trend that has been spread out across all cities it is the heavy dose of florals - either feminine in pastels as seen at Nina Ricci and Giambattista Valli or punchy and bold prints at Dries Van Noten.  In contrast to the more dramatic leather and studded pieces, there was a softer side revealed where mauve took the stage as a clear color of the season in the form of luxurious outerwear at Nina Ricci and Elie Saab or in a loose fitting dress at Valentino.  Fashion also took a riskier turn leaving little to the imagination with sheer tops paired with leather details or ornate floral embroidery as seen at Alexis Mabille and Emanual Ungaro. Fabrics with a high-shine finish were were paired with either bold prints and solids all humming to the tune of a galactic influence at Saint Laurent, Rochas and Dries Van Noten.  There was also a clear influence from designers for the fauna that surrounds us, whether it was butterflies, a common motif at designers like Valentino, to the serpent where snake inspired patterns were used in abundance from free-flowing chiffon dresses to structured jackets.  What were your favorite Paris shows? Valentino, Nina Ricci and Giambattista Valli were by far my favorites.  Continue for more...

{Beauty Flash} NYFW Fall 2014 Beauty Trends

After several seasons where the beauty looks sent down the runway were muted and natural looks dominated, fall took a different direction and albeit refreshing turn. Get ready, because next fall will be about makeup whether applied to the eyes or dotted on the lips.  Next season the focus will turn to the eyes if inspiration is drawn from the runway where eye shadow provided a major impact.  At Donna Karan models wore a stunning silvery shade with a subtle sheen that was paired with a nearly bare lip while at DVF models donned an incredibly flattering mauve shadow coupled with a lipstick in nearly the same shade.  In addition to shadow, the cat eye was also seen in different renditions whether a subtle winged effect seen at Rag & Bone and Ralph Rucci or a smoldering smokey as seen at Sophie Theallet -  all imparting a dramatic, yet modern look.  Many of the looks spotted on the runway had a 'pretty' quality about them - at Ohne Titel the models complexions were luminous like they were lit from within and at Michael Kors cheek bones were accentuated with a peach blush with bronze undertones and groomed brows. The hair styles were either windswept with a dramatic side part tossled off-center like at Richard Chai and Giulieta or an undone updo nestled together with pins at Jason Wu.  Overall the beauty looks floating down the runway breathed new life into the season and I cannot wait to see what lands in my makeup bag come fall.  Continue for more...

Beauty Flash:: Paris Spring 2014

It is hard to believe that spring fashion week has come to an end - so many amazing trends emerged especially in beauty.  The Paris shows revealed an elaborate display of looks, whether at Givenchy where models donned faces that were encrusted with colorful jewels to the absolute opposite at Chloe where makeup artists let an even complexion and super straight hair take the main stage.  There was also modern interpretations of the smokey eye, seen at Elie Saab, where smokey gray was used instead of black and at Stella McCartney a cat eye was achieved using a chocolate brown liner instead of traditional black.  Do you have any favorite looks from the show? Below is a round-up of some of my favorite look from the City of Light. Continue for more...

Resort 2014: Stella McCartney

The Stella McCartney Resort collection has given me a new love - combining floral and python. I am also loving her take on a more relaxed peplum, a silhouette that does not seem to be going anywhere, which I am very happy about. Here are a few of my favorites from the presentation.

Resort 2014: Zac Posen

 The dresses at Zac Posen's Resort 2014 presentation were draw-droppingly beautiful, they almost looked like couture.  My favorite is the first look that features a cascade of feminine ruffles.  Which is your favorite?
