I believe that everyone should have a no-fail chocolate and white cake recipe that they can turn to whenever they have the desire or need to bake a cake. I luckily have my go to for decadently rich dark chocolate cake from Bon Appétit, but until recently I was always on the lookout for a white cake that completely blew me away (and let me say this is no easy task, since I am a chocolate girl through and through). Luckily, my search has ended and my favorite chocolate recipe has met it's match - meet this white cake that I layered in Blood Orange Curd and topped with buttercream and coconut. This cake is like eating a slice of heaven. It is incredibly light and moist while the blood orange curd gives it a sort of creamsicle taste and the coconut transports you somewhere warm - very, very warm, but to bring it back to reality (sigh), I topped with a gilded pine cone. Ahh thank you so much Alyssa - really loved you post by the way today:)
DeleteI was just talking about how Blood Oranges are such an under-used, but amazing ingredient. Never had it in a cake! Love it.
ReplyDeleteI completely agree - blood oranges are just so pretty!
DeleteI love your riff on regular lemon curd. We should be taking advantage of all of this winter citrus.
ReplyDeletesuper cute!! Love the styling!! I have a dinner party next weekend....trying to come up with a menu.....I'm thinking halibut en papillotte....maybe a leek soup to start off with....and dessert?? maybe this! ha! will keep you posted. Oh and my hubby want me to make him the lemon cake again...problem is I end up eating most of it!
ReplyDeleteI understand, I love baking sweets but I don't want to eat them all:) This cake is fabulous and you can make it into one large cake versus small to serve a crowd.
DeleteLeek soup, delicious - I love leeks especially when combined with cauliflower or potatoes:) Let me know what you decide to make!

This looks so good! I have been hunting for the perfect white cake recipe for a long time. My problem is that the cake always turns out dry. I haven't tried cake flour before so maybe that is part of it. I bookmarked this recipe. Can't wait to try it!
