If you would have asked me 10 years ago if I would have ever moved out of Manhattan, I would have told you that you were, ahem, crazy. But here I am a few years older (hopefully wiser) and decided to take the plunge. I moved across the East River into a beautiful brownstone on a perfect tree-lined street with my boyfriend. I never would have thought that my obsession with the West Village or the Lower East Side would be replaced with this outer borough, but surely it has. These days I would rather wander around Carroll Gardens, Cobble Hill and Brooklyn Heights than walk down Hudson Street.

With that being said, Manhattan, please take note – I still love you. I visit you Monday through Friday and devote almost 10 hours a day in your presence.

I am starting out my first post, with a discovery actually - Greenpoint, Brooklyn. I drove through this part of town only once on my way to the dog kennel and I really didn’t see too much going on. It seemed like a grittier Williamsburg; however today, I discovered some gems, in the form of boutiques scattered around Franklin Street. First, we wandered into Old Hollywood(
http://shop.oldhollywoodmoxie.com/) – a beautiful well-edited store full of antique inspired jewelry and a nice clothing collection. I am currently lusting after the Bluebird lace vest that would pair perfectly over a nice flowy blouse and a Greylin Ruffle dress that could carry me through the last warm day of the season into winter, when paired over a long-sleeve tissue thin cotton tee. Next we ventured into Alter (http://alterbrooklyn.blogspot.com/), another great boutique with budget-friendly prices. They have a great selection of Cheap Monday jeans and I can’t stop thinking about Rojas’ on-trend, high-wasted tribal printed shorts – think Proenza Schouler’s Fall 2011 collection. Our shopping excursion ended with a trip into Dalaga (http://stores.intuitwebsites.com/dalaga/StoreFront.bok), where I was left swooning over a delightful tulle confection by Oh What a Night and the You and I leather lace-up booties that would go oh-so-well with skinny jeans or a long white pleated skirt. Bottom-line: All of the above boutiques have beautiful interiors with even better vignettes and clothing choices - if you are ever in the area be sure to check them out.

I am excited to share with you other discoveries about the nabe, including boutiques, restaurants and anything else that sparks my fancy!
